Web Hosting
CC-IN2P3 provides a web hosting service exclusively to IN2P3 laboratories.
Web hosting requests must go through a dedicated ticket on our user support. Please follow instructions on the dedicated “how-to” page:
Domain Names
IN2P3 manages its own network domain: in2p3.fr. Consequently, all hosted websites have an address in this domain.
However, it is still possible to configure the sites to respond to additional non-IN2P3 domain names.
It is the webmaster’s responsibility to acquire the desired domain name from the domain name registrar of their choosing and to ensure proper DNS redirection to the name in the in2p3.fr domain.
For cnrs.fr domain names, requests must go through the CNRS IT support system.
Operating Modes
The CC-IN2P3 web hosting service offers three Operating Modes:
For a set list of supported technologies, you get a turnkey solution hosted on our infrastructure. This requires a minimal amount of work compared to the other operating modes and is somewhat beginner-friendly.

We provide you with a running NGINX server with possible PHP-FPM extensions for running PHP-based applications. This allows for more control and customisation but requires more work on your behalf.

We provide you with a namespace on our hosting platform, with dedicated CPU, RAM and storage capacity for you to deploy your own software as you see fit. This implies a good knowledge of the underlying container orchestration technologies, or at the very least a strong willingness to learn.
Attention
We will help you calibrate and access the resources, but we do not provide advanced support to assist the implementation of the chosen technologies.
This operating mode is targeted at specialists and use cases not fit for the other modes. Do note that ressources (CPU, RAM, storage) requested with this operating mode are accounted for annually to the corresponding scientific collaboration or laboratory.

Security Guidelines
In most cases, the websites hosted on our infrastructure use free and open-source software. Such software, while providing valuable services at a lower cost, is subject to frequent updates to provide new features or fix security vulnerabilities. Webmasters are responsible for the maintenance of the software they deploy and as such to keep up with these updates. Subscribing to software publishers’ mailing lists and regularly checking IT security bulletins, such as those issued by the CERT-FR is a good start.
Failure to maintain up-to-date software would result in the shutdown of the affected websites by our web hosting team, with or without notice, if risks are deemed too severe.
Likewise, inappropriate website content may result in immediate website shutdown.
Legal Requirements
As hosting takes place in France, on infrastructure belonging to and managed by CNRS/IN2P3, users must comply with the Charters for the use of resources.
French law on trust in the Digital Economy (LCEN) requires the following information to appear clearly and accurately within a legal notice on your websites:
the name and email address of the director of publication
a generic email for the webmaster
the contact information of the hosting provider (i.e. CC-IN2P3 contact information)
It is important to note that the director of publication:
is responsible for the nature of the data hosted on the website
is responsible for appointing the website “webmaster”
can delegate website management to third parties but remain legally responsible
Any change to the director of publication or webmaster must be reported to CC-IN2P3 hosting team, via our user support.
